Introduction :
Critical equipment, including defibrillators, ventilators, and chest compression devices, is essential for resuscitation. Junior nurses with less than three years of experience often receive limited training on these devices during their formal education or clinical placements. To address this gap, AI-assisted, tailored instructional videos in Cantonese have been developed. Compared to traditional methods, these videos offer greater cost-effectiveness, reduced production time, and personalized content aligned with learner needs.
Objectives :
A minimum of 50% improvement in participants' confidence levels when operating critical equipment in the resuscitation room is anticipated.
Methodology :
A one-group pretest-posttest study design will be employed. A 5-point Likert scale questionnaire will assess junior nurses' confidence levels (0: not confident at all, 5: extremely confident) before and after viewing the instructional videos. Confidence will be measured across four domains: setting up, operation, troubleshooting, and calibration of critical equipment. 17 junior nurses were recruited using purposive sampling. All nurses received a pre-test questionnaire. After completing the questionnaire, video lectures (~5-10 minutes per video) on critical equipment will be sent. Post-test questionnaire was then sent to nurses 2 weeks later to test the confidence level after the intervention. The tailored instructional videos in Cantonese focus on the operation of critical equipment. These videos integrate information from standard manuals and team experiences in the resuscitation room to address common challenges, including equipment malfunctions, operating problems, and workflow integration. Delivered in Cantonese using Hong Kong medical terminology, the content bridges theoretical knowledge and practical application, aiming to foster confidence and reduce errors. AI tools accelerate production, generate high-quality narrated explanations, and create visual animations. The use of AI significantly reduces production time and costs, enabling the creation of engaging visual aids without extensive resource requirements.
Result & Outcome :
All measured aspects demonstrated statistically significant improvements (p< 0.05), with increases exceeding 50%, except calibration. Mean confidence scores rose from 2.1 to 4.1 for setting up, 2.4 to 4.3 for operation, 1.9 to 3.9 for troubleshooting, and 3.4 to 5.0 for calibration. Future studies will explore additional critical equipment and Accident and Emergency topics, with the intention of extending the intervention to all A&E nursing staff to enhance safety and patient care during resuscitation.
