Introduction :
TMADDU has partnered NGO to establish a SA Peer Support Group. To further deepen the medical-social collaboration, TMADDU accepted invitation from ELCHK Enlighten Centre to organize a hospital-based practicum for a Peer Counsellor Trainee (PCT) under the ERB PCFCC organized by the NGO. The practicum was integrated into curriculum of this vocational training course. After completing the practicum and passing course assessments, the PCT was graduated to be peer counsellor. She could provide sustainable peer counsellor service to patients of CPH hereafter. Evaluation of the project showed 4 -wins situation: TMADDU in/out patients gain peer support, PCT gains a recognition of identity as PC, TMADDU and collaborative NGO gain valuable learning experience in closer cooperation.
Objectives :
1.To provide training and assessment to PCT during practicum in TMADDU 2.To foster mutual support of both PCT and SA patients
3.To inspire SA patients to increase motivation for change
4.To foster medical-social collaboration
Methodology :
1.A working group was set up by staff of TMADDU and ELCHK Enlighten Centre to develop train-ing program and learning activities.
2.Patient programs for both in and out patients of TMADDU were run or assisted by the PCT during the practicum with working group‘s coaching and guidance.
Result & Outcome :
After completing the practicum:
1.1 female PCT finally became a peer counsellor.
2.Total 16 patient programs were delivered to TMADDU patients.
3.Total patient attendances were 130.
4.Total 76 satisfaction surveys were collected from patients (42), staff (33) and the PCT (1), 76.2% of patients felt their motivation to quit substance has been enhanced; 92.8% of patients agree or strongly agreed the program was inspirational and helpful;100% of staff agreed or strongly agreed that PCT helps to inspire patients to quit SA.
