Prevention Pressure Injury
Introduction :
In 2022, the Surgery Department at PMH experienced a substantial escalation in pressure injury incidence. As pressure injuries constitute a critical key performance indicator in nursing practice, the implementation of robust prevention strategies is paramount. Adhering to the principle that prevention supersedes treatment, immediate interventional measures were instituted to address this emerging clinical challenge. This abstract delineates the imperative for proactive approaches in mitigating pressure injury risk within surgical settings.
Objectives :
1.To enhance healthcare personnel awareness regarding pressure injury prevention
2.To reduce the incidence of hospital-acquired pressure injuries
3.To ensure continuity and consistency of nursing care delivery
Methodology :
A multifaceted intervention strategy was implemented, comprising:
1.Train-the-trainer educational program
2.Development and dissemination of educational video resources
3.Implementation of systematic pressure injury surveillance rounds
4.Modification and optimization of daily clinical routines
Result & Outcome :
1.Pressure injury incidence demonstrated progressive reduction:
•2022: 66 cases
•2023: 23 cases (65.2% reduction)
•2024: 18 cases (72.7% reduction from baseline)
•2025 (January-September): 5 cases
2.Demonstrable enhancement in quality of care delivery and patient outcomes Conclusion
The implementation of comprehensive, proactive prevention strategies yielded significant success in reducing pressure injury incidence within the Surgery Department. Through enhanced staff education via the train-the-trainer model, multimedia educational resources, systematic surveillance protocols, and evidence-based modification of clinical routines, the department achieved a substantial 72.7% reduction in pressure injury cases from baseline (66 cases in 2022 to 18 cases in 2024). These findings underscore the critical importance of sustained educational initiatives, multidisciplinary collaboration, and continuous quality improvement efforts in maintaining excellence in nursing care. The marked improvement in patient outcomes validates the efficacy of these interventions and reinforces the fundamental role of prevention in contemporary clinical practice.
