Introduction: :
Hospital Authority (HA) has long-term partnership in Professional Nursing Development with mainland since 2007; from Specialty training in 2007 to Professional visits between provinces in 2008-2018, Support of services during the COVID pandemic and One-year Greater Bay Area (GBA) Nursing Knowledge Exchange program in A&E in 2025.
Objectives: :
To analyze the outcome of GBA Specialty Nursing Knowledge Exchange Program in A&E of PYNEH
Methodology: :
There was direction received from Nursing Services Department (NSD) of Hospital Authority in February 2025, of assigning 3rd batch of GBA Nurses in A&E in June 2025, not in the position of observers but staffs. To prepare for the 3rd batch, Specialty Exchange Programme book, Continuing Clinical Assessment, Intravenous Access and Blood taking Courses were written by the Specialty Advisory Group of A&E, Medical English Course were arranged by NSD of HA, Mentors were assigned in department for the captioned. Cluster Orientation program was designed by NSD of Cluster. They were invited joining training and drills in department.
Result & Outcome: :
There were 26 GBA Nurses assigned working for one year at 7 cluster of A&E in June and July 2025, 4 were allocated working in PYNEH, they were paired up working with mentors on the first 3 weeks and expected working independently thereafter. Their performance was monitored. After spending 7 months in Hong Kong, it was noted that majority of them adapted well on work-and-life and able to work independently, few with culture shock and needed supervision. Similar outcome was noted to the other 22 Nurses. In recruiting GBA Nurses to the program, it was important paying attention to 1) Proficient of Cantonese in interacting with patients; 2) Use of English in communication and documentation and medication; 3) Mindset of Patient Safety 4) Willingness to change and 5) Number allocated to A&E. Besides injecting resources to them, there were knowledge and practice exchange in return.
Conclusion The theme of knowledge exchange was met at the 3rd Batch, with outcome stated above; it was recommended extending the duration to 3 years, minimizing the turnover and increasing the stability of workforce.
