Infection control education
Introduction: :
Nursing staff faces escalating stress due to high public expectations and heavy
workloads. Smart hospital initiatives offer potential relief. The use of technology to enhance information access, a feature reflected in TEMI's functionality, has previously shown promise in improving patient experience ( Lavdaniti et al., 2011). Our ward introduced TEMI for knowledge sharing on infection control in this project.
Objectives: :
To enhance communication between relatives and colleagues
To promote infection control knowledge to relatives
To reduce nurse workload in ward
Methodology: :
A literature review was conducted to explore the needs of relatives and nurses. Based on the findings, relatives expressed interest in knowing methods for caring for patients, including bedside care ( Lavdaniti et al., 2011) 2011).
Knowledge of infection control was identified as important to protecting both patients and relatives (Park et al., 2020). Promoting infection control knowledge
TEMI was used to promote infection control knowledge to patient relatives. To evaluate knowledge acquisition, a structured questionnaire was administered before and after the TEMI led educational intervention. The intervention included video demonstrations of hand hygiene, proper procedure of gown up and gown down. In the post questionnaire, relatives also answered two questions regarding the usefulness and interest level of the intervention.
Result & Outcome: :
Fifteen groups of relatives participated in the intervention (figure 1 ). A significant increase in mean knowledge scores was observed in pre and post test assessment, indicating the intervention was effective ( figure 2 ). Moreover, a majority of participants reported the intervention was very interesting and useful (figure3) By conducting this intervention, the findings suggest that AI assisted technology can effectively mitigate workload, improve communication and enhance knowledge acquisition.
