Introduction: :
The Stair Campaign, implemented by Tung Wah Eastern Hospital's Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) Committee, aimed to promote active lifestyle among healthcare staff by encourage stair climbing as an accessible form of exercise.
Objectives: :
To modify stair habit, encourage climb stair instead of using lift, promote a healthy life style at workplace and fortering a positive workplace culture.
Methodology: :
The campaign featured four key components: Education Video: Video was tailor made to highlight the benefits and safety of stair exercise, premiered on kick-off ceremony, widely distributed via email and WhatsApp to enhance staff participation. Kick-Off Ceremony:
A formal opening of campaign with keynote speech by HCE Dr Lau KH, presented souvenir and experience walk led by top management. It aroused attention of staffs and demonstrated institutional support. “Run the stair” Stair Competition: Nine teams competed to climb six floors of stair for a prize. It was broadcasted live on Zoom, engaged staff in a fun, team-based race, fostering camaraderie and promote stair climbing as a form of exercise. 60-Day Walking Challenge: A challenge open to colleagues to complete a 10000 steps target per day, 60 days in three months to win a prize. It encouraged long-term physical activity and change of exercise habit. Different routes have been suggested to enhance participation.
Result & Outcome: :
Results
The campaign successfully promoted physical activity, modified stair usage habit, and fostered team spirit. Key outcomes include:
1.Strong staff engagement (160 views for promotion video, 110 staffs attended kickoff ceremony and 182 staff complete walking challenge)
2.Improve short terms (92%) and long terms (95%) stair climbing exercise habit. Modified staff to take stair instead of using lift (94%).
3.Improve staff moral and cohesion (85%). The Stair Campaign exemplifies the effectiveness of targeted wellness initiatives in improving staff well-being, modifies stair habit, develops exercise habit and fostering a positive workplace culture. This program demonstrated how minimal-resource interventions can yield significant organizational benefits. Future efforts will focus on sustaining these positive changes and exploring innovative approaches to staff wellness.
