Introduction: :
Newly graduated nurses often face challenges transitioning from theory to clinical practice, particularly in communication, confidence, and adapting to complex healthcare environments. To facilitate this transition, the Department of M&G launched the “WISE” program to promote professional growth and clinical readiness. Designed to complement existing orientation and preceptorship schemes, the program offers practical, learner-centered experiences that enhance competence, collaboration, and confidence in real-world nursing practice.
Objectives: :
•Enhance clinical competence and confidence of newly graduated nurses.
•Foster critical thinking and problem-solving skills through interactive and engaging learning.
•Cultivate engagement, resilience, and positive professional identity.
•Strengthen talent retention and promote job satisfaction.
Methodology: :
The "WISE" program is tailored to support new graduates in transitioning into their professional roles through four core components:
•Workshops: Focusing on enhancing communication for quality service and patient safety, the Communication Workshop adopts interactive approaches such as experience sharing, role play, and group discussion to develop effective interpersonal skills for clinical practice.
•Interactive training sessions: These sessions integrate practical nursing care and management topics with insights from multidisciplinary speakers. Using Mentimeter, group discussions, and Q&A activities, participants bridge theory with practice and gain deeper, more enjoyable learning experiences.
•Simulations: Realistic, hands-on scenarios of high-risk situations, including critical patient transport, emergencies, and family interactions during crisis, enable participants to strengthen clinical judgment and boost confidence in complex settings.
•Engagement activities: Beyond mentorship and supervisor meetings, the “Lunch Gathering with DOM 2025 – Networking for Growth” initiative was introduced for 2024 graduates. Conducted in a relaxed and cheerful atmosphere, it provides a platform to discuss career opportunities and development, share experiences, express thoughts and feedback, and even make a wish to DOM. The initiative fosters ongoing professional connections and emotional support among new nurses.
Result & Outcome: :
Data from pre- and post-training quizzes and evaluations (n=46) showed significant positive outcomes. 100% participants rated the content appropriate and practical for clinical application, and 100% agreed facilitator guidance enhanced learning. Scores improved substantially, from pre-lecture 7.7% to post 32.7%, and from pre-workshop 54% to post 60%. Participants reported greater confidence in communication, managing deteriorating patients, and handling emergencies. Long-term follow-up indicated sustained engagement and peer support.
The “WISE” Learning Journey empowers new nurses to learn, grow, and lead with confidence. Through immersive workshops, interactive training, simulations, and engagement activities, it nurtures curiosity, teamwork, and critical thinking while strengthening both individual development and the Department of M&G’s future workforce.
