Introduction: :
Physiotherapy plays a vital role in postnatal care by educating new mothers on essential topics such as breastfeeding, maternal recovery exercises, and more in postnatal class. Traditionally, postnatal class have relied on printed paper pamphlets for distribution. However, with the rise of digital technologies and the promotion of e-documentation in HA hospitals, the physiotherapy department initiated a trial by transitioning paper pamphlets to e-versions (e-pamphlet) in Chinese and English pamphlets. These are accessible by scanning a QR code. This shift aligns with smart care principles, leveraging digital tools to deliver educational content conveniently.
Objectives: :
1. To explore the effectiveness of using e-pamphlet in postnatal class 2. To investigate the acceptance of using e-pamphlet among patients in postnatal class
Methodology: :
Before the trial, a comprehensive e-pamphlet covering essential postnatal exercises and health tips was developed. A QR code was then generated which links directly to the e-pamphlet, making it easily accessible via smart devices. The trial was conducted from October to December 2025 in the postnatal ward, including all mothers in postnatal class, and was divided into two phases. In Phase 1, mothers were given a choice of formats: both the traditional paper pamphlet and the QR code for accessing the e-pamphlet were provided. In Phase 2, only the QR code was provided as standard; however, if a mother requested a paper pamphlet, the therapist would still provide one.
Result & Outcome: :
The results showed that 60% of mothers opted for the e-pamphlet in Phase 1, while 100% accepted e-pamphlet in Phase 2 without requesting a hardcopy. Several mothers commented that they were overwhelmed by hospital paper pamphlets, which were easy to misplace or lose. They highlighted that the e-pamphlet allowed convenient access to the information anytime via their smart devices, without the risk of losing it. Replacing traditional paper pamphlets with e-pamphlets proved a high acceptance, improving service user satisfaction through smart care innovations while promoting a paperless environment and potentially minimising costs. This transition not only enhances patient education but also contributes to environmental sustainability by reducing waste in healthcare. In the near future, the potential of e-pamphlets integrating into other areas of healthcare could be explored to further enhance the overall quality of care and patient satisfaction.
